Google Search Results Show “Likes”

This is one of the most ingenious ideas I’ve seen in some time. I have no affiliations with “crossrider.com”, but i ran across this brilliant plug-in that allows you to perform a google search with any of the major 3 browsers and in doing so when your results show up, it also populated the Facebook “likes” for each item in your search results.

The gist of the plug-in is that when you do a google search, not only do you see the results you intended, BUT you also see the amount of “Like’s” each search result has received over time, and whether or not any of your friends on facebook like that particular page/business/product.

This is a brilliant idea for those looking for services or other products, and while seeing the public’s view through facebook support (Likes), they can also see whether they know anyone using that item. In the event they are, then the searcher could call the existing supporter and say, “Hey, Tom. Saw you were a fan of Such and Such Dry Cleaners. Did they get the stains off your coat?”

So the general results look like the below, and when a mutual friend on Facebook likes the product of service, their pictures show up the the right of the search item.

So I give two thumbs up the Crossrider Team for coming up with this idea. Not only does it work well, but the plug in will down load in a matter of less than a minute. Keep in mind to see friend results, you have to be logged in facebook. Happy surfing.

Ever wonder how Facebook knows you so well?

So, I felt the need to post this, to make sure everyone knew where and how to check up on what Facebook knows, and doesn’t know about you. Most folks think its just a matter of who sees the post you make about your ex-boyfriend, but there’s a lot more to it than that!

First of all, every app or program you access within Facebook has a set of back end application permissions you submit to when you use that application. These things can divulge information about you from your marital status, locations, interest, and even your posts.

So now that you know how facebook so easily can pinpoint your interests and just happen to post all those ads and info that relates to you, its time to tell you how to keep whats yours to yourself, and make sure noone you dont agree with, sees or has access to this info.

First step- Login to facebook.
Go to your privacy settings, under account drop down :

3. On the bottom left, go to the tab that says apps and websites, “Edit your settings”

4. Once you have that done, you are almost there. Go to the selection of “Edit Settings”

5. Once you do this, you will be amazed, I guarantee it! You will see dozens of apps you have reviewed over the years, and most likely alot of them you are sharing useful information to without reason. You can remove these by clicking on the small X out to the right of each application. Hope this helps, and here’s to a safer internet. No telling whats out there!

Twitter Background Dimensions

After a busy schedule, this past week, we have launched our new website, and are working out the final kinks this coming week. I thought I would write a bit of tech-help info for anyone looking to adjust or create a custom twitter background for the “new twitter” page layout. If you aren’t aware, twitter had updated its base page to be wider, more easy to navigate, and more adaptable to the many resolution/screen sizes out there.

So in the event you would like to create a custom background for your twitter page, it would need to look like this:

-Item number one to note it that there is now a 40 pixel count border atop the full page of every twitter page.
-Most importantly, Due to the variety of resolutions on computer browsers, there are several different ways the left side will be viewed. Your exposure could be as good as 300 Pixels per side, but the industry shows that over 70% will only show 100-110 pixels.
So with that said, go with what you like, but keep in mind the majority of folks will only be viewing your profile at 100-110 pixels on each side…..(These dimension can be created with any image software, along with a good pic or graphic)
-Try to keep your colors consistent with your logo, brand or photo.
-It is best to complete this upload through the design tab of your profile page, and use a .png file type.
